Is It Bad to be Selfish??

Is it bad to be selfish?  After all, isn't self the main motivator for humanity in most cases.  Even our acts of selflessness can often be traced to at least a hint of selfishness in that we draw pleasure from being kind.  We feel better about ourselves when we are selfless......in general anyway.

Jesus taught us to live lives that are free of sin in which we are to "deny" ourselves put others first.  Is it possible that it is in the act of attempting to live a selfless life that we can obtain the greatest levels of peace?  Perhaps it is by loving others before ourselves that we will actually be the most happy?  If thats the case, selflessness and love can actually be a selfish persuit.......so, maybe it isn't all that bad to be selfish......sometimes.
