Why Bad Things Happen To Good People.

One of the biggest questions of all time in reference to God is how a "good" God could allow for so much evil in the world. In addition to that, why do "good" people get things like cancer, or have houses burn down, or suffer various trials? But have we ever taken the time to think of what the world would be like if the only people ever to suffer hardships were those who were evil? What would it be like if only the evil got swept away in tsunami's, or had health issues? How genuine of a world would that one be?

If we could draw clear evidence that if you are good, good things happen for you and if you are bad, bad things happen, then wouldn't everybody be "good." In a world like that you would be completely stupid not to be good. In fact, even people who were evil would still act good out of sheer common sense. In that world, people could manipulate God into granting them a better life simply by living decently, or vise versa, God would manipulate all people to live well by openly rewarding the good and punishing the bad.

But could it really be said in a world like that if anyone was really, truly "good?" Or perhaps it would simply be a selfish world, with people willing to live however they needed to in order to ensure they only encountered a positive fate.

It is only in a world where things are truly random, a world where the rain really does fall equally on the righteous and unrighteous that we have the opportunity to see the true content of a man's heart. Only then do we know who the truly good are. Those who are good just because, whether they encounter good fortune or disaster, their true character stands as an unwavering testament to who they are. It is only in a random world of lucky and unlucky that we get a chance to see who is real and who is not.
